RR+ is built for deep dives. It adds powerful functionality to help your searches go even deeper faster.
If you want to ensure a comprehensive search, to quickly hone in on potential research gaps and missing links, and to ensure total coverage for any size literature review, systematic review or the like, then read on!
How to do an Advanced Search with RR+?
To do an Advanced Search in ResearchRabbit means taking advantage of RR+ filters that help you dive into specific topics, ideas and niches using a powerful system of identification.
Here's how to use the Advanced Search and specific examples of how it can take your research to the next level:
1. Start a new search in ResearchRabbit
You can start with a keyword search, or import your existing research library. If you already have a collection of papers saved elsewhere, bring it into ResearchRabbit to quickly discover related connections based on what you know.
To import articles, click on "Import" on the homepage. Here you can bring in BibTeX, CSV, or RIS of your research papers. Reference managers (Zotero, Mendeley, EndNote, etc.) let you export papers in these formats.
Be sure to aim for topic coherence (papers on the same theme). Mixed topics dilute the signal.
Once you've set up the search, click "Next" to create the visualization and get the first set of suggestions.
π‘Hint: RR+ helps you best when you front-load lots of seed papers. The richer your starting set, the smarter your network-based recommendations.
2. Click "Advanced Search"
Now, you can use the RR+ Advanced Search functionality to do a deep search on your topic. Advanced Search lets you filter results based on:
Keywords
Date of publication
Author
Journal
Quartile
Keep in mind, this is different than filtering search results on sites like Google Scholar, PubMed or other AI tools. With ResearchRabbit, all searches are based on connection. So, an Advanced Search combines the power of connection-based search with powerful filters to interrogate the literature in an entirely unique and efficient way!
Keywords
π When to use it: Spot research gaps, explore sub-topics, and get deep into a topic fast.
Use the keyword filter to look for papers which contain these keywords in their titles or abstracts.
Example: "spectral composition", "LED", "migratory stopover"
Date of Publication
π When to use it: Target recently published work, do historical analyses, update an existing library
Use the date filter to limit results to those published within a certain date range. For example, may be interested only in research published in the last year. Update the date ranges to reflect this, and you'll only see results in that range.
Example: 2022 - Present
Journal
π When to use it: Focus on specific publications or journals, review research from a journal, determine venue-fit for your work
Use the journal filter to limit results to those published in certain journal(s). This can be an essential step in research when evaluating how your work fits into that venue's publications, or to find relevant research on your topic from a publisher you know.
Example: Journal of Avian Biology, Global Change Biology
Quartile
π When to use it: Target high-impact, high-quality papers, expand your search to include articles from unexpected publishers
Use the quartile filter to limit results to those papers published in journals with a SJR Quartile of Q1, Q2, Q3 and/or Q4. The SJR Quartile correlates to the prestige of a journal, with Q1 being the top 25% of journals, Q2 being top 50%, and so on.
This is useful for quickly surfacing papers from high-impact journals (i.e. limiting results to Q1 and/or Q2), or to conversely expand results and check if there's any relevant research from publishers you may not normally review.
Example: Q1
β οΈ Note: Quartiles are journal-level, vary by subject area, and are not identical to Journal Impact Factor or Journal Ranking.
